The Carswell Distributing Story
Carswell Distributing Company was founded in 1948 by Mr. Robert E. Carswell. Its first product offering was a line of electric water pumps distributed in the central part of North Carolina. Over the years various product lines have included toys, small home appliances and personal care products, as well as consumer electronics and major home appliances. Like every other business, Carswell has evolved through ever changing product life cycles, markets, and the business environment. Today, we are a major marketer and distributor of specialty durable goods products and service parts in the outdoor power equipment industry, the home heating industry and power sports industry.
Carswell currently operates distribution businesses in Winston Salem, NC; Greenwood, AR; and Shreveport, LA. Also out of Winston Salem we market the Robin brand of portable outdoor power equipment nationally. Additionally, Carswell is associated with NHC, Inc. located in Philadelphia, Mississippi in a joint venture to market the N2 and Quad 1 brands of after-market service parts to the power sports industry.
The President and CEO of Carswell is William A. Parsley. Having joined the company in 1976, Bill was appointed President in 1986. In addition to his duties at Carswell, he is a past Chairman of the National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors and is a past President of the Outdoor Power Equipment Distributors Association.
Operating Divisions:
Operating out of Winston Salem, The Dealer Group offers a combination of consumer and commercial lawn and garden power equipment, and home heating appliances to retail dealers throughout the Southeast from Virginia to Florida and including Alabama, Tennessee and Kentucky. Commonly known brands offered include Bob Cat, Bunton, Ryan, Great Dane, Robin, and Yazoo/Kees commercial grounds maintenance equipment, Jungle Jim, Peco, and Turf Top commercial accessories, as well as Poulan, Poulan Pro,Garden Master, and Merry Tiller consumer outdoor power equipment. Monitor and Toyostove, oil and gas heating appliances make up our selection of home heating products. All of these major brands are supplemented by several in house brands of product to complete our overall offering.
Carswell Import and Marketing Associates is a division which imports portable hand held gasoline engine products such as string trimmers, brush cutters, leaf blowers and hedge trimmers under the Robin brand. These products are marketed in North, Central and South America through independent distributors as well as the three Carswell distribution locations.
Carswell Parts in Winston Salem specializes in offering OEM and after market outdoor power, power sports and heating appliance service parts to Southeastern retail dealers. Brands and lines offered include Kohler engines and service parts as a service distributor, Silver Streak after market service parts, and complete lines of OEM service parts for the outdoor power equipment as well as heater service parts for kerosene and gas home heaters.
Carswell/OEI is a distribution division located in Greenwood, Arkansas, serving the Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Kansas markets. Carswell/OEI distributes the Bob Cat, Bunton, Ryan, Efco, Everide, Great Dane, Robin, and Yazoo/Kees lines of commercial outdoor power equipment. Additionally OEI is a major distributor for Rotary aftermarket parts as well as various OEM parts brands including McCulloch, the Husqvarna Turf Care Group (AYP, Poulan, Weedeater, Rally), Murray, MTD, Thermoid, Carlton, and Windsor. Working with Engine Southwest, they also serve as a service distributor for Tecumseh engines and parts.
Engines Southwest (ESW) is a distribution division located in Shreveport, Louisiana serving the Louisiana, Texas and Mississippi markets. ESW services as a Central Parts Distributor for Tecumseh engines and parts. Major equipment lines include Bob Cat, Bunton, Ryan, Efco, Everide, Great Dane, and Robin, OEM and after-market parts lines include Rotary, Murray, MTD, Thermoid, Carlton, and Windsor.
Corporate Sales and Marketing Strategy: Carswell provides complete marketing, sales, and service support for all products sold and focuses on developing close partnering relationships with both its customers and vendors. The Carswell business philosophy states in part, \"Our purpose is to help our vendors and customers improve their profitability.\"
Future growth strategies include both geographic expansion as well as expansion through the identification and development of niche markets. Additionally, through the use of evolving Internet and e-commerce technologies, we expect both sales and customer growth by making it easier and more convenient to transact business.
